Chukum is a natural lime-based plaster made by combining hydrated lime with a tannin-rich resin extracted from the bark of the Havardia albicans tree, native to Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Known for its warm, earthy tones and smooth, matte or polished finish, Chukum is valued for its durability, breathability, and natural water resistance properties. It adheres well to porous substrates like concrete or brick, offering a long-lasting, eco-friendly finish.
Highly breathable and free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Chukum helps regulate indoor humidity and temperature. Traditionally used by the Maya, it is now popular in sustainable architecture for both interior and exterior surfaces. While application requires skilled labor and the resin may be regionally limited, its low maintenance, natural aesthetic, and environmental benefits make it a compelling alternative to synthetic finishes.

Seamless textures can be tiled repeatedly across a surface without visible seams making them useful for architectural drawings and 3D models.
