Slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock that is primarily composed of clay minerals such as illite, chlorite, and muscovite. It is formed from the transformation of shale, a sedimentary rock, through intense heat and pressure over millions of years. Slate has a unique layered structure that makes it ideal for use in a variety of applications, including roofing, flooring, and cladding. The layers of slate can be split into thin sheets that are uniform in thickness, making it easy to work with and shape into various sizes and shapes.
