Walnut Herringbone

A seamless wood texture with walnut arranged in a herringbone pattern. The image represents a physical area of 2550 x 2576 mm (100.4 x 101.4 inches) in total, with each individual board measuring approximately 900 x 150 mm. The joints are filled with a solid fill and are 2 mm (0.1 inches) in width.

Walnut is a timber subspecies used within the architecture and construction industry, favoured for its adaptability. Walnut often features a smooth surface ranging from light, pale brown to a dark chocolate colour. Typically holding a straight, linear grain, walnut is a popular timber for internal applications such as furniture, interior cladding and paneling, and smaller wooden products. Walnut's high cost often prevents it being used for larger external applications such as building facades.

This texture is an example of a herringbone pattern. Named for its resemblance to the skeleton of the herring fish, this pattern is formed with a series of interlocking rectangles positioned perpendicular to each other. Its use in the built environment dates back to at least Roman times and remains popular in contemporary architecture for a range of applications including tiled surfaces and parquet flooring.
